Compact vests are designed for smaller body frames and are approximately 2 inches shorter in the top portion and around 3 inches shorter in the center spar compared to standard vests.
The padded sections of compact and standard vests are identical between the two versions.
Some individuals find themselves between the sizing options, requiring foam modifications or still experiencing fit issues even with the compact version.
Trying on a vest before purchase is recommended because fit significantly affects comfort during use, and individuals of similar height may have different torso proportions.
Upgrading to a higher-end vest model like the Ultra2 can provide improved comfort compared to basic options included with some equipment packages.

Observations based on specific vest models from 2007-2010 and may not reflect current designs.
One user reported the standard vest being too long despite being 5'7" with a short shoulder-to-waist measurement, and another reported dissatisfaction with compact sizing at 5'8", indicating that height alone does not determine proper fit.
Some reports of fit issues with compact versions for small-framed individuals remain unresolved.
Long-term comfort testing mentioned but details not fully documented.
