Virtual Horizon 2 false readings on Transvideo monitors after movement
ما توصّل إليه النقاش
- The Virtual Horizon 2 feature on Transvideo X-SBL monitors can drift out of level after panning, tilting, or other movements even with shock and acceleration compensation enabled.
- Turning off the 0 Cal on Tap parameter does not resolve the horizon drift issue.
- A manufacturing component variation in some units was identified as the root cause of Virtual Horizon 2 and 3 drift problems, not a software issue.
- The Tiffen WHM-BG level sensor uses three-axis rate gyros with accelerometer drift correction and performs better than Transvideo Virtual Horizon during camera movement, but it was discontinued and requires a separate display.
- Virtual Horizon 1 without gyro compensation appears to be more stable than versions 2 and 3 in some units.
- Waiting for the SENSOR INIT message to disappear before moving the monitor is necessary for proper calibration, which can take up to 40 seconds.
- The horizon drift problem became more pronounced after software update 7.27b released in February 2017 on some units.
- Recalibrating during the sensor initialization phase actually de-calibrates the horizon rather than fixing the issue.

- The drift issue appears intermittently and not on all monitors tested before shipping.
- The problem typically emerges after some usage time rather than being present immediately.
- A permanent fix was still pending at the time of the last update, with uncertainty about whether it would be software or hardware based.
- The separate display requirement of the Tiffen WHM-BG makes it impractical for some operators.
- The XCS digital level solution mentioned is prohibitively expensive for many users at around $9700.
