• The 3A top stage uses a sliding dovetail mount that can be disadvantaged to operate and lacks secure locking during tilting movements.
• The original Donkey Box features a drop-in column clamping stage design introduced in the Generation 2 model in the mid-1990s.

• The original Donkey Box has been out of production since the mid-1990s and spare parts are difficult to source.
• Nylon worm gears in the X and Y controls can strip, potentially rendering an original Donkey Box inoperable if spares are unavailable.
• Direct comparison between Generation 1 and Generation 2 Donkey Box stability was not completed by those who handled both units.
• The discussion reflects equipment status as of the early 2000s.
