Reducing display size on Ultrabrite2 monitor when working with SD video signals

14 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • The Ultrabrite2 monitor's built-in zoom function only adjusts underscan settings and does not make the displayed image smaller
  • The monitor's Picture-in-Picture feature requires two separate video inputs to function and cannot reduce image size effectively
  • Custom aspect ratio adjustments in the monitor's on-screen display menu provide only minor size reduction
  • When using the Decimator2's USB control panel to scale HDMI signals, the scaling process changes image resolution while keeping the output full-screen rather than adding black bars around the image
  • A solution involving scaling video through the Decimator2 to HDMI, then converting HDMI to DVI for monitor input was proposed but testing showed it did not achieve the desired smaller image display

Depends on

  • The setup requires SD video signals to maintain overlay features like artificial horizon and frame lines
  • Testing of proposed solutions using HDMI scaling and DVI conversion did not produce the desired result of a smaller image on screen
  • The Ultrabrite2 monitor is based on Tiffen firmware, not Boland firmware, limiting some potential workarounds
  • No conclusive solution was found during the discussion thread
