Trinity vs. 360-degree roll head: practical job prospects and system flexibility for operator investment decisions.
Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.

What the thread found
- Market demand varies by region and client type: in markets such as NYC, the Trinity is frequently requested by directors and clients, while 360-degree roll heads are typically requested by DPs seeking dedicated nodal rotation capability.
- The ARRI Trinity 2 can achieve 360-degree roll natively; a roll head alone offers single-axis simplicity and allows larger camera builds on extended rings.
- The Trinity is considered more flexible across shot types and positioning, while adding a pan axis to a roll head system increases costs significantly but broadens potential job scope.
- A Trinity with pan axis covers more job types than a dedicated remote head, though remote head work also requires a second operator or assistant.
- Alternative solutions include a modified Trinity 1 as a lower-cost entry point, and Cyclo roll heads that mount temporarily on a standard Steadicam® rig for specialized shots only.
- One operator reported dissatisfaction with Trinity 90-degree camera roll performance in specific applications.
- Some operators currently view neither option as a worthwhile investment under current market conditions.
Depends on
- Local market demand and existing client network.
- Whether pan axis is necessary for typical assignments.
- Budget constraints and secondary operator availability for remote-head operation.
- Specific camera weight and configuration requirements.
