Storage bag options for steadicam arms and vests
21 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Specialized steadicam arm bags are available from manufacturers like Tiffen, Sachtler, and PortaBrace
- A climbing rope bag from Black Diamond with added closed-cell foam padding can serve as an effective arm storage solution
- The Black Diamond rope bag design features a full-length zipper opening along the seam, allowing easy insertion and removal of the arm while reducing risk of dropping
- Soft carrying bags are preferable to hard cases as they are lighter and easier to transport
- Steadicam arm bags should be handled carefully during air travel to prevent the arm or vest from being crushed by baggage handlers
Depends on
- Price information is from 2005-2006 and may not reflect current costs
- The Black Diamond climbing rope bag solution requires custom padding and is not a purpose-built steadicam product
- Some participants noted they were still sourcing the best option rather than reporting final results
- No direct comparison testing between different manufacturer bags was documented
