Slide plate orientation for dual-camera stereo rig on Steadicam
17 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The Steadicam sled treats the mounted weight as a mass to be balanced and does not distinguish between single or multiple cameras as long as left-to-right and front-to-back balance is maintained and the gimbal is positioned correctly.
- Mounting a slide plate perpendicular to the sled base (standard camera orientation) is preferable to parallel alignment because it keeps the rig operable at the operator's side and maintains reasonable monitor visibility.
- The physical shape of the weight on top of the Steadicam does not affect stabilization performance provided balance and gimbal placement are correct.
Depends on
- This is a conceptual discussion without documented testing of stereo rigs on Steadicams.
- No specific weights, camera models, or sled configurations are detailed.
- The response addresses balance principles but does not cover potential gimbal tuning adjustments that might be needed for a wider payload.
