Reducing weight of Sony Venice 2 rental power plate for Steadicam® work while maintaining accessory power distribution.

What the thread found

  • Rental power plates for the Sony Venice 2 contain voltage converters, are metal construction, and feature a 3-pin 24V input, which adds length and weight comparable to the Venice 1.
  • The Venice 2 onboard power distribution is limited to a few accessory outputs, requiring a rear plate for powering multiple accessories.
  • The lightest solution is a compact V-Mount-to-AB adapter with additional D-Tap outputs instead of a full-size DC power plate.
  • For Steadicam® operation, the power plate can be removed and accessories powered through splitters or the camera's 2-pin outputs while feeding the Venice 2 from the sled; the AC then only powers the viewfinder.
  • The Venice 2 operates on 12V input, allowing flexible power sourcing.
  • An onboard battery is often lighter than the entire rear plate construction.

Depends on

  • Solution depends on the number and power draw of accessories requiring support.
  • Operating the camera on 12V instead of native voltage may have performance or charging implications.
  • Removal of the rear plate is practical only for dedicated Steadicam® shoots, not mixed work.
