Mounting a Bartech focus receiver to dovetail plate rails without permanent attachment
20 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The spacing between matte box rails differs from the spacing on dovetail plates, making standard matte box brackets incompatible for this application.
- A Bartech receiver can be mounted to dovetail plate rods by reversing the clamping pieces of a standard bracket so that flat surfaces face the rods instead of notched surfaces.
- Non-skid rubber-type tape applied to flat clamping surfaces provides grip for rods without permanent fastening.
- The modification requires longer machine screws than those included with standard brackets because the reversed orientation eliminates countersinks.
- Removable mounting can be achieved using adhesive products like 3M Dual Lock or velcro strips attached to the receiver bottom.
- Thread wear in aluminum bracket holes from repeated attachment and removal can be avoided by using temporary mounting methods.
Depends on
- The solution requires access to specific imperial-sized machine screws for the modification.
- Dovetail plate rod spacing varies by manufacturer, and the described problem may be specific to certain plate types.
- Adhesive-based temporary solutions may accumulate dust or degrade over time depending on usage frequency.
- The discussion references specific follow focus systems and brackets from particular manufacturers that may no longer be current or available.
