Dynamic balancing challenges with EFP stabilizers using fixed batteries and workarounds
19 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The standard EFP gimbal cannot be dynamically balanced when the battery is locked in a fixed position
- Dynamic balance adjustments on EFP systems can be attempted by repositioning the monitor and adjusting the camera's center of gravity, though results may be limited
- Some users have extended the monitor bracket to allow placement of counterweights on the opposite side of the battery to approach dynamic balance
- Upgrading the EFP base or implementing structural modifications to allow battery movement enables dynamic balancing
- Adding a small counterweight on the monitor side opposite the battery can help offset weight imbalances, though this increases overall rig mass
Depends on
- The original poster was using someone else's EFP and could not implement modifications
- Achieving true dynamic balance with a fixed-battery EFP remains limited even with bracket adjustments
- Various workarounds require modifications that may not be practical for all users or rigs
- Discussion does not provide detailed mathematical explanation of dynamic balance principles
