Connecting Sony FX1 camera to Steadicam Pilot stabilizer and powering setup
17 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The Pilot includes an RCA to RCA cable as standard
- The FX1 can be connected to the Pilot monitor using the camera's standard A/V cable, but routing excess cable around the top becomes unwieldy
- A custom A/V cable made from a spare Sony connector and shortened to size solves the cable clutter problem
- Powering the FX1 from the Pilot battery requires a 14.4V to 7.2V voltage converter, which is expensive
- Most users prefer to power the FX1 with its own battery rather than through the Pilot
- The camera battery also provides beneficial weight distribution on the stabilizer rig
- Aftermarket battery adapters are available from manufacturers that can supply power to the FX1 from the Pilot battery platform
- A Pilot-AA variant offers a cost-saving alternative to the standard Pilot setup
Depends on
- Discussion focuses on Sony FX1 and Z1 cameras specifically
- Voltage converter cost was noted as prohibitive at time of discussion
- Battery adapter availability depends on aftermarket manufacturers
- Weight balance considerations may vary based on specific rig configuration
