Powering an Alexa camera from an XCS Ultimate sled using 12V versus 24V input

What the thread found
- The Alexa camera can accept input voltage between 10.5 and 34 volts DC across its three power connectors.
- When 12V is supplied to the Alexa, the RS output connector will only provide 12V rather than the standard 24V output.
- When voltage above 24V is supplied to the Alexa, the RS output connector matches the input voltage.
- Powering the Alexa from a sled's 12V supply allows the sled to be turned off while maintaining camera power, which saves energy and reduces internal converter stress.
- Users reported successful operation powering an Alexa with standard accessories from an XCS Ultimate sled for approximately two hours using four Dionic HC 90 batteries.
- The Alexa accepts input from either the BAT connector, battery adapter back, or battery adapter top connector with the same voltage range specifications.
Depends on
- The practical difference in runtime between 12V and 24V sled power was not definitively tested or reported.
- Some users reported noticing no difference between 12V and 24V operation, while others noted theoretical advantages to one approach.
- The 24V output voltage limitation when using 12V input only matters if powering 24V-only accessories from the RS connector.
- Discussion includes only experience with Alexa Plus and Studio models; applicability to other Alexa variants may differ.
