Video recording devices for steadicam work including the AVIAH PVR and compact solid-state recorders
21 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The AVIAH PVR features a high data rate of 1800 megabits per second combined with an OLED screen that produces excellent image quality viewable from any angle
- The AVIAH PVR includes a built-in television tuner, two rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, and weighs little enough to mount on a camera sled
- A compact solid-state SD card recorder with MPEG4 recording capability can achieve approximately 45 minutes of recording time with internal memory only and up to 3.5 hours with an additional 1 gigabyte card installed
- Small solid-state recorders with no moving parts offer instant recording start and automatic return to the last recorded file after stopping
- The AVIAH PVR television tuner requires cycling through an automatic channel setup procedure rather than allowing direct channel selection
- The AVIAH PVR playback interface uses lengthy sequence numbers for each recording which can make locating specific takes time-consuming
Depends on
- The AVIAH review was conducted after three months of ownership so represents medium-term experience
- The compact solid-state recorder assessment includes only testing with internal memory at time of initial report
- Uncertainty exists regarding whether compact recorders advertised as PAL and NTSC switchable support both standards for recording or only playback
- One reviewer did not return with follow-up information as promised
- Specific brand identification of the compact solid-state recorder could not be confirmed from photographs
