Running HD-SDI video signals down Steadicam sled posts to external monitors

21 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • HD-SDI signals can be run through short lengths of 50 ohm cable on sled posts if direct 75 ohm coax connections with BNC terminations are available at both ends
  • A lemo connector in a sled post may prevent running HD-SDI signals down that particular post design
  • Disconnecting auxiliary equipment like a VDA bubble unit may be necessary when switching to a different monitor configuration

Depends on

  • Running HD-SDI through sled posts is only feasible with appropriate BNC connectors already installed in the sled structure
  • Cable length appears to be a factor, with discussions focused on 'short lengths' of cable
  • The specific sled model and its connector layout determines feasibility; alternative connectors like Hirose connections may not work for this purpose
  • No definitive testing results were provided for all sled configurations
