Powering accessories from a Steadicam sled using available connectors and adapters

13 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • Steadicam sleds use 3-pin Lemo connectors as a standard for 12/24V accessory power
  • Arri equipment uses different connectors: 3-pin Fischer for 24V accessories, 11-pin Fischer for 12V accessories, and 2-pin Lemo for 12V on Alexa models
  • Arri accessory cables are not compatible with Steadicam sled connectors despite both using Lemo connectors
  • Custom adapter cables such as 3-pin Lemo to D-tap or 3-pin Lemo to XLR can be manufactured to enable use of standard accessories with sleds
  • Polarity differs between Ultra sled 2-pin Lemo and Alexa 2-pin Lemo connectors

Depends on

  • The Ultra sled originally shipped with 2-pin Lemo 12V connectors; later models may have included 3-pin variants
  • Some sleds may have been modified from factory configuration
  • Information about connector manufacturing and availability from overseas suppliers notes higher shipping costs relative to component cost for small orders
