Mounting options for Atomos Shogun recorder on cinema camera sleds with monitor rods
DisputedParticipants disagreed and reached no conclusion. Read the findings as positions, not as an answer.
What the thread found
- Mounting a Shogun recorder lower on a sled, either on the center post or on monitor rods, helps reduce clutter around the top of the camera where cables and motors are typically located
- Monitor rods on the Ultra 2 and Clipper camera sleds have non-standard dimensions that differ from typical 15mm lightweight rods
- Clipper monitor rods measure 16mm in diameter with spacing of just over 100mm between them
- Small rig offset clamps designed for standard 15mm rods will not fit Ultra 2 and Clipper monitor rod configurations
- Tiffen manufactures mounting blocks and return monitor mounts specifically designed to work on these camera sled monitor rods
- XCS makes post clamps in various sizes that can be combined with other mounting components to create custom solutions
- Mediablackout.com offers an intersex plate-based mounting solution
- Solutions can be built by combining components from multiple manufacturers rather than using a single complete mounting system
Depends on
- The thread does not definitively confirm whether a universal solution exists that reliably mounts the Shogun low on both Ultra 2 and Clipper sleds
- Specific product codes, part numbers, and final working configurations are not provided in the discussion
- Cost considerations limit some options, such as dedicated Tiffen systems which some users found too expensive
