Compatibility of Flyer arm and vest components with Merlin stabilizer

19 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • The Merlin, Pilot, Flyer, and Archer all share the same post and gimbal hole size, allowing arm components to be swapped between them.
  • Merlin and Flyer arms both use the same size post, making them interchangeable depending on sled balance requirements.
  • The Merlin is designed for cameras up to 5 pounds, which is the minimum weight for the Flyer arm, so a heavier camera is needed on the Merlin when using a Flyer arm to achieve proper balance.
  • A complete Flyer package can be purchased and its arm and vest can be reused on a Merlin by upgrading only the gimbal component.

Depends on

  • Flyer arm components work with Merlin but require a camera at the heavier end of Merlin's weight range for proper balance.
  • Component manufacturers may not sell gimbal upgrades separately without arm and vest included.
