Compatibility of PRO 1 electronic level with PRO 2 film camera sled and alternative solutions for level and frameline generators
22 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The PRO 1 level indicator contains electronics built into the PRO 1 monitor and uses analog rather than digital technology, making it incompatible with Master Series monitors and other monitor types.
- A PRO 1 level can only function with a PRO 1 monitor, while a PRO 2 monitor works with both PRO 1 and PRO 2 levels.
- Physically adapting a PRO 1 level to a PRO 2 sled would be challenging due to wiring differences, as PRO 2 systems daisy-chain the monitor through the level while PRO 1 requires a separate input connector only available on PRO 1 sleds.
- The cost of converting a PRO 1 level to PRO 2 specifications would likely exceed the price of a new PRO 2 level indicator, which costs approximately 850 dollars.
- The XCS PDL+ programmable digital level with crosshair works with most known monitors and costs around 2000 to 2700 dollars, with custom connector modifications available.
- The XCS Duo dual frameliner offers eight pages of non-volatile memory storage for different frameline configurations and costs approximately 2800 dollars.
- Transvideo offers a frameliner with three adjustable frameline sets that can be repositioned and overlapped within the frame, includes switchable gray border area and multiple crosshair styles, with pricing around 1260 dollars and includes non-volatile memory for up to three different configuration settings.
Depends on
- Pricing information is from 2004 and may not reflect current costs.
- XCS and Transvideo solutions are external devices requiring separate power and connections rather than integrated sled systems.
- The discussion focuses on film camera monitoring systems and may not apply to modern digital cinema cameras.
