HD-SDI input signal loss on Sled when BNC connector is fully locked
13 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Signal appears when a BNC cable is inserted but not fully locked, but disappears once the connector is twisted into the locked position.
- The issue can be caused by a loose chassis-mounted BNC receptacle where internal wires may short against each other when the connector is fully seated.
- Testing with multiple BNC cables and direct camera-to-monitor connection can help isolate whether the problem is in the receptacle rather than the cable.
- A loose BNC receptacle nut can sometimes be tightened and secured with nail polish to prevent future loosening.
- In some cases, the HD-SDI cable itself within the equipment may be faulty and require replacement rather than the external receptacle.
Depends on
- The original poster's specific issue was resolved by replacing an internal HD-SDI cable rather than by adjusting the BNC receptacle, suggesting diagnosis must consider both external and internal cable integrity.
- Advice about tightening the receptacle nut did not resolve this particular case.
