Battery power configuration for Steadicam Flyer LE with camera
16 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The monitor on a Steadicam rig requires constant power from an AB or V-mount battery
- A single battery powering only the monitor will last through a full day of operation
- Powering a camera through the Steadicam instead of using its own battery provides the benefit of changing only one battery throughout the day
- The standard four-pin XLR power cable that comes with the Flyer package is designed for ENG cameras and may not be compatible with all camera models
- You can choose between V-mount batteries or Anton Bauer mount batteries when configuring your rig, with an adapter plate allowing one mount type to be used on the other
- Adding weight to a light camera setup by using a more powerful battery on the Steadicam can improve handling and extend battery life
- Running a camera off its own battery while powering only the monitor through the Steadicam is a simpler approach requiring fewer cables and adapters
Depends on
- The Canon XL-H1S lacks a four-pin XLR power input, making it difficult to power from the Steadicam without custom modifications
- Voltage step-down converters needed for certain camera configurations were discussed but not fully resolved in this thread
- Recommendations about specific battery models and capacity depend on individual camera setup weight and power requirements
- A depth-of-field adapter combined with wireless focus pulling has additional setup complexities not fully addressed
