ARRI Trinity in X-mode (Omega configuration): hardware and software setup, monitor position, balance, tilt-lock, pendulum, and mode switching
What the thread found
- Engaging tilt-lock while the tilt motor is active triggers an overcurrent warning and prevents flight.
- Balance is achieved by first centering the camera in the ring and centering the ring on the head, then adding defined counterweight at the top of the ring so that tilt drop-time is zero in all 90-degree roll positions; one operator uses approximately 350 g mounted on a 3/8-16 extension.
- For true mechanical-tilt Omega operation, disable the tilt motor electronically via the motor menu (where the joystick is assigned), then engage tilt-lock and disable or lock the pendulum; this is the method recommended by the manufacturer.
- In AR mode, continued tilt control is possible but without stabilization, making it difficult to use; however, it permits sled positions not available with a true AR system.
- Monitor placement must avoid contact with the head; alternatives discussed include a horizon-referenced monitor separate from the gimbal handle, and a freely rotating but lockable pendulum assembly that was in prototype development.
