Upgrading the Volt encoder cable from soft PVC to polyurethane for improved durability on Tiffen Volt and M1 gimbals
What the thread found
- The standard encoder cable supplied with Tiffen Volt gimbals is made of soft PVC originally designed for computer internal wiring, and tends to fray or fail over time.
- A service technician offers an upgrade using a polyurethane cable of the same electrical specification, running from the encoder board to the 4-pin Hirose connector, which requires adhesive removal, countersinking the mounting hole on a mill, and micro-soldering.
- The upgraded polyurethane cable remains flexible and wraps around the gimbal post while offering significantly improved tear resistance compared to the original PVC.
- According to the service provider, the upgrade is compatible with Tiffen Volt on standard gimbals and Tiffen M1 with protective kit, but cannot be applied to Volt on PRO-Gimbal models.
Depends on
- Upgrade applicability depends on gimbal model: standard Tiffen Volt and M1 with protective kit only; not compatible with Volt on PRO-Gimbal.
