Adapting V-lock battery plates to accept 24V instead of 12V batteries

15 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • A standard 12V V-lock battery plate can be modified to accept 24V V-lock batteries by altering the pin configuration and adding mechanical blocks to prevent incompatible batteries from being inserted.
  • The modified 24V plate uses pinout 1 (ground), 3 (24V), and 4 (charging), with pin 5 absent and physical protrusions added to prevent 12V batteries from fitting.
  • Using 24V batteries on camera support sleds reduces the need for frequent battery changes when powering 12V equipment through the sled's power distribution system.
  • A 3-pin LEMO connector can be used to deliver 24V and ground from an external battery plate to the sled's power outputs.

Depends on

  • The modification requires careful verification of pinout specifications before implementation.
  • The plate shown was not yet anodized at the time of posting.
  • This approach assumes the camera support sled has available 24V power outputs.
  • Users should disconnect existing power connections before modifying battery plates.
