Practical field experience with Marshall 6.5" HD LCD monitor for professional video production
22 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The monitor's front glass surface is highly reflective, making it difficult to use in bright outdoor conditions or direct sunlight, though acceptable for indoor use.
- Color reproduction on the SDI input is inadequate even at maximum chroma settings, requiring workarounds to achieve acceptable image quality.
- Safe area markers only display in 16x9 format, creating a significant problem when shooting in 4x3 format since the full raster display can show action outside the actual safe zone.
- The monitor is portable and easy to power, making transport convenient despite its performance limitations.
- A competing model from Astro offered superior glare handling and better chroma reproduction in comparable field use.
Depends on
- Evaluation based on use with a specific camera model (Panasonic SDX900) and SDI output, which may not represent performance with all input types or sources.
- Comparison is limited to one alternative model (Astro), not a comprehensive market survey.
- The user's expectations about chroma performance were based on experience with a different monitor model rather than manufacturer specifications.
