Setting up framelines on monitors without built-in frameline generators
13 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- First generation Cinetronic monitors lack a built-in frameline generator and only squeeze the image without cropping it
- Second generation Cinetronic monitors include frameline functionality
- RED Epic can output framelines by switching the HDSDI output setting from Clean to Overlay mode
- Framelines generated by RED Epic are thin and difficult to see, and while their color can be adjusted, their thickness cannot be increased
- Transparent plastic sheets can be used as a workaround, with dry erase markers allowing flexible marking for different formats
Depends on
- Some camera models like FS700 do not provide frameline output options
- The frameline thickness limitation on RED Epic is a hardware constraint
- Tape marks and transparent sheet solutions are workarounds rather than integrated solutions
