Volt gimbal on a GPI PRO sled: spare parts and accessories to order with the rig.
DisputedParticipants disagreed and reached no conclusion. Read the findings as positions, not as an answer.
What the thread found
- Order spare encoder cables and modules for the gimbal, as well as spare power and gimbal cables, plus extra trunnions which frequently break.
- Lubricate the gimbal with only one drop of oil; excess oil noticeably reduces gimbal responsiveness.
- Have the gimbal centered at the manufacturer with the Volt grip already mounted; shim sets should be included but are sometimes missing.
- The goal of centering is to align the yoke rotation axis precisely with the pan axis; shims shift the post axis by approximately ±0.001 inch with noticeable effect, independent of static or dynamic balance.
- No corresponding adjustment exists between pan and tilt axes; play between the yoke arms and pan assembly can be compensated with thin washers.
- The Volt grip can feel too smooth for some operators; plan to add grip tape, or consider upgrading directly to a Volt-equipped PRO gimbal as an alternative.
Depends on
- Choice between purchasing an M2 Volt gimbal or retrofitting an existing PRO gimbal to Volt configuration.
