FedEx shipping loss and insurance claim procedures for camera equipment
14 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- When shipping through FedEx via a third-party pickup service, the third party may be responsible for loss before the shipment transfers to FedEx
- FedEx requires a declared amount in the Carriage Value field to establish coverage, and without this declaration they offer only minimal liability
- FedEx does not automatically provide insurance coverage and only reimburses up to a very low default amount unless additional paid insurance is purchased
- Equipment insurance through professional photography insurance brokers can cover losses that FedEx does not fully reimburse
- The Carriage Value declaration field on FedEx forms may be in small text and not prominently presented to shippers
Depends on
- This account describes one specific shipping experience and outcome
- The discussion does not clarify the exact FedEx liability limits or default coverage amounts
- The final claim resolution through the professional insurance broker was not reported in the thread
