Looseness in the top stage mounting of a Flyer LE camera slider
16 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A top stage that moves slightly forward or backward on the post is typically caused by loose allen bolts that secure a metal wedge beneath the stage
- The wedge should be tightened so it clamps firmly against the underside of the top stage, creating a secure metal-to-metal connection
- When tightening the allen bolts, the top stage must be aligned carefully to avoid restricting the side-to-side adjustment mechanism
- A temporary paper shim can be used as a spacer to help position the wedge correctly during initial tightening, but must be removed before final tightening to ensure proper metal contact
- The adjustment can require multiple attempts to achieve correct alignment and smooth operation of the side adjustment knob
Depends on
- Applies specifically to second generation Flyer models and similar designs with this wedge mechanism
- The procedure requires careful alignment to avoid misalignment of the side-to-side adjustment system
