Routing video and power cables internally through a Flyer LE sled center post

15 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • The standard Flyer LE SD version has a single video output at the top and no video connection point at the bottom of the sled
  • Running cables internally through the extended center post requires a complete new wiring loom and cannot be accomplished by adding a single cable
  • Standard SD composite video can be routed down the exterior of the center post to reach equipment mounted at the sled base
  • A video distribution amplifier or equipment with dual video outputs allows one video feed to serve both a monitor and a camera recorder without requiring internal rewiring
  • Battery power access points at the sled base can be modified with aftermarket plates or upgraded batteries featuring D-tap connectors
  • Some Flyer LE models may have unused HD-SDI wiring already present inside the post that could potentially be activated by adding connectors, though this requires verification with the manufacturer
  • Standard SD coaxial cables and BNC connectors may support HD-SDI signals over short distances, though this approach risks losing compatibility with SD-only equipment

Depends on

  • The Flyer LE SD version does not have factory provision for internal video routing to the sled base
  • Professional rewiring services are available but can be costly
  • The standard Flyer LE SD monitor lacks video loop-through output, necessitating external signal splitting solutions
  • Whether unused HD-SDI wiring exists inside all Flyer LE posts is unconfirmed and requires manufacturer consultation
  • Using a Y-cable to split video signals degrades image brightness and should not be used for exposure monitoring
