Fitting newer Hytron 100 batteries into older EFP steadicam rigs designed for Hytron 120 batteries

17 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • Anton Bauer modified the battery casing dimensions, making newer Hytron 100 batteries incompatible with older EFP battery cage designs.
  • Removing the plastic stickers on the top and bottom of Hytron 100 batteries can reduce their size enough to fit into older cages.
  • Lowering the battery cage mounting position can accommodate newer battery styles.
  • An aluminum spacer piece on the top right side of some EFP battery cages prevents newer Hytron 100 batteries from seating completely, and grinding this piece flush can resolve the fitment issue.
  • The Anton Bauer T-plate hotswap system with Dionic batteries was used as an alternative power solution for EFP rigs, providing 180 watts of capacity.

Depends on

  • The discussion is specific to EFP steadicam rigs and their battery cage designs.
  • Battery case changes occurred approximately three years before 2009, affecting availability of older Hytron 120 models.
  • Some proposed solutions like rotating the battery mount 90 degrees did not work in all cage configurations.
  • The T-plate alternative solution may not be suitable for all EFP setups.
