Squeaking noise in PRO Vest bottom spar and solutions

17 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • Squeaking in the lower spar section of a PRO Vest can originate from foam, locating pins, or the area where the plastic wing meets the aluminum front plate
  • Applying lithium grease or teflon grease to the locating pins can reduce or eliminate squeaking
  • Inserting a clothes pin into the gap between the plastic wing and aluminum front plate can solve squeaking issues, though the pin may occasionally fall out during use
  • The bridge plate on a PRO Vest can be unbolted and flipped to switch between regular and goofy operation

Depends on

  • Solutions were tested in limited conditions (living room testing mentioned, field testing outcome not reported)
  • The clothes pin solution is a workaround rather than a permanent fix
  • Discussion focuses on one specific vest model from 2009
