HD-SDI signal transmission through camera sled post connections
17 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Standard LEMO connectors with interrupted shields can degrade HD-SDI signals due to incorrect impedance in the connection path, whereas coaxial LEMO connectors that maintain shield continuity preserve signal integrity.
- HD-SDI signals are more sensitive to impedance mismatches and interference than standard definition composite signals, requiring properly specified connectors and cable even over short distances like those found in camera sleds.
- A standard LEMO connection may technically pass an HD-SDI signal but with a weaker, noisier result that is more vulnerable to external interference compared to RF-rated connectors.
Depends on
- The original poster tested their coaxial LEMO solution with one technician at one facility but did not perform comprehensive interference testing with HD transmitters.
- Experience with specific sled models mentioned was limited; one commercially available HD-compatible sled using standard LEMO connections was not directly tested by contributors.
- The distinction between a barely-working marginal signal and a properly specified signal that meets broadcast standards was not precisely defined.
