Power plate battery configuration for Steadicam Master with PAG system

20 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • A power plate allows flexible battery mounting on a Master A/B to PAG system, enabling operators to use one, two, or three batteries while keeping one on the monitor for easier dynamic balancing.
  • Mounting multiple batteries externally on the rig can make it wider, which may cause interference with the operator's knees and legs during shooting.
  • The original Teletest bracket for the Master series is too thin and flexible, which introduces vibration at speeds faster than walking pace.
  • Direct PAG socket mounting on the sled positions the upper battery approximately 6 inches from the center of the sled, closer than using an adapter which adds 0.8 inches of distance.
  • The Teletest bracket is constructed from elastic steel rather than aluminum.

Depends on

  • The external battery configuration is primarily useful for powering large transmitters required for live television work.
  • The Teletest bracket was the only bracket option available for the Master series at the time of discussion.
  • No alternative bracket materials or manufacturers were confirmed to offer comparable strength and performance.
  • The broader battery placement may not be problematic for all shooting scenarios but becomes an issue in constrained spaces.
