Creating an audio-based tally signal when wireless tally is unavailable
14 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- An audio tone can be routed through headset communications as an alternative to a visual tally light when wireless tally signals are not available
- To implement an audio tally, connect an interrupt switch to the vision mixer's tally output, run an audio tone through an XLR cable into the switch, then send the output to wireless in-ear monitoring so the tone sounds when the camera is live
- A manual alternative involves placing a tally light on the audio mixing console and having someone trigger an audio cue by hand when the camera goes live
Depends on
- This is a temporary workaround, not a permanent solution
- The technique requires cooperation from both vision and audio engineering departments
- Manual triggering depends on accurate timing from the operator
- No detailed technical specifications provided for tone frequency or signal type
