2013Monitors forum
Experience with the Bon FM-072SCH 7-inch HD-SDI monitor for on-set use
13 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The monitor offers common professional features including false color, focus peaking, RGB and waveform displays, and anamorphic mode.
- The built-in digital level indicators are present but lack sufficient accuracy for reliable use.
- The monitor provides multiple brightness modes including Daylight mode for outdoor work, and the brightness adjustment does not appear to simply amplify the signal uniformly.
- Outdoor visibility is generally good except when direct sunlight hits the screen.
- The monitor lacks anti-reflective coating, which some users consider important for handheld camera work.
- At the time of purchase, the unit was significantly cheaper than comparable models from other manufacturers while providing similar HD-SDI functionality.
- The monitor does not include a flip mode feature, though this may potentially be added through a firmware update.
Depends on
- The digital level readings mentioned as inaccurate, so users should not rely on them for exposure assessment.
- Performance in direct sunlight is limited due to the lack of anti-reflective coating.
- Flip mode was not available at the time of the discussion.
- The assessment was made by someone whose primary work is not exclusively on camera stabilization rigs, so specialized Steadicam user needs may differ.
- The price comparison is from 2013 and may not reflect current market conditions.
