Playing and editing AVI files from Archos AV500 on Mac in Final Cut Pro
19 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- AVI files captured with Archos AV500 initially fail to play in QuickTime on Mac, showing only a blank white image or causing QuickTime to crash with an error
- Installing the Perian QuickTime plugin resolves playback issues and enables editing of Archos AVI files in Final Cut Pro
- VLC player can play Archos AVI files without issues, but files played through VLC cannot be edited in Final Cut Pro since it requires QuickTime-compatible formats
Depends on
- This discussion is from 2007 and addresses older Archos hardware and Mac OS versions
- The DiVX player and standard QuickTime installation alone do not resolve the compatibility issue
- VLC playback does not provide a workflow solution for Final Cut Pro editing
