Mounting bubble levels on camera sleds and monitors
16 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Bubble levels should be mounted on both the sled base and monitor to verify proper orientation during setup
- Industrial-strength double-sided tape designed for banners can securely attach levels without affecting their accuracy
- Epoxy adhesive formulated for both metal and plastic provides strong permanent mounting while remaining removable without surface damage
- Super glue bonds too quickly to allow positional adjustment before setting and requires acetone for removal
- A monitor's level reading depends on the angle of its mounting arm, so the monitor level must be cross-referenced against the camera mounting plate level
- Sled bases are often not level side-to-side or front-to-back by default and should not be assumed level without verification
- Industrial-grade velcro may compress slightly and affect the accuracy of level readings compared to rigid adhesives
- When disassembling or modifying a rig, levels should be rechecked as components may shift during the process
Depends on
- Advice based on setups with green screens and liquid cooling systems rather than standardized rigs
- The specific epoxy product used for successful mounting was not identified in the discussion
- Whether levels should be mounted permanently or temporarily depends on individual workflow and was not concluded
