HD-SDI signal compatibility with Ultra and Ultra2 sled video inputs
18 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The original Ultra sled was not designed to support HD-SDI signals through its standard inputs.
- The 4-pin Hirose connector on the Ultra sled does not support HD-SDI signals.
- The BNC composite video input on the Ultra sled shares the green cable line with the 4-pin Hirose and is not suitable for HD-SDI.
- On the Ultra2, HD-SDI signals require two separate cables from the sled to the monitor: one Hirose cable and one BNC cable.
- The HD component lines within the sled posts use Lemo connectors with inadequate shielding for HD-SDI signals.
- Running an external BNC cable directly from the stage to the monitor can work as a workaround on the original Ultra.
- HD component breakout cables with proper connectors may potentially carry HD-SDI signals on some sleds, though this remains untested on the original Ultra.
Depends on
- Advice specifically targets the original Ultra and Ultra2 models; compatibility with other models unknown.
- The HD component line solution was not confirmed to work, and the HD component cables on at least one sled were reported as broken.
- Retrofit of HD capability on the Master Series Broadcast sled was considered difficult with no definitive solution provided.
- The discussion includes unresolved questions about specific monitor model compatibility.
