Complete disassembly, cleaning, and rewiring of a Master Series sled after exposure to heavy dust
15 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- All video wiring and connectors can be replaced with 75 Ohm rated components to make the sled HD compatible.
- A VDA and voltage regulator can be added to the sled base to provide 5V output from one connector.
- The gimbal benefits from soaking in denatured alcohol followed by application of precision machine oil, which can improve its rotation smoothness.
- After gimbal lubrication, increased audible bearing noise during fast manual spins is normal and does not affect operational pans which occur at slower speeds.
- The internal structure of the K section contains significant structural elements that create confined working spaces, making reassembly time-consuming.
- Master Series sleds contain field-replaceable component boards, allowing rapid field swaps of failed Video D/A or other IC-based modules if spare boards are available.
- Field servicing and complete overhaul of older Master Series rigs is feasible and preserves equipment value.
- A complete sled disassembly and rewiring typically requires three days of work.
Depends on
- This experience comes from a single rig that was exposed to extremely fine dust in a specific climate.
- The increased gimbal noise after oiling was only observed during fast manual spins detached from the post, not during normal operation.
- No quantitative measurements of improvement were provided.
- Specific details about the physical cable routing and connection methods were not fully documented.
