Installing a video distribution amplifier inside a PRO battery module to prevent signal feedback and ghosting from simultaneous recorder inputs and outputs
19 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A video distribution amplifier can be mounted inside the battery module between the recorder and transmitter connector to isolate recorder outputs from inputs, eliminating ghosting caused by signal feedback.
- The VAC model 11-011-504 fits in the available space inside the battery module and can be attached with velcro.
- Replacing the recorder/playback switch with a DPDT version enables proper switching between recording and playback modes when using an internal distribution amplifier.
- Powering the recorder from the camera battery instead of the video battery reduces electrical noise in the system, as simultaneous operation of the XCS electronic level and PDR-100 on the same battery causes interference.
- A video transmitter mounted on the bottom of the sled works reliably with this modification.
- The distribution amplifier approach is more elegant than using an external distribution amplifier with a separate switch.
Depends on
- The modification was tested with specific equipment: TB-6 system, PDR100-H recorder, CIT antenna with Sony tuner, and XCS electronic level.
- Long-term reliability of the PDR recorder was still being evaluated at the time of posting.
- The specific switch part requires ordering from a supplier rather than using readily available alternatives due to thread pitch requirements.
- Noise reduction strategy may vary depending on power source configuration and specific equipment combinations.
