Archer gimbal tilt axis not returning to level position after drop test

17 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • When performing a drop test on an Archer gimbal, the camera tilt axis may not return to level and instead tilts in alternating directions on repeated tests even after camera balancing and stripping equipment bare.
  • A gap of approximately 1/16 inch between the yoke handle and gimbal can cause the gimbal to slide back and forth during sled tilting, leading to inconsistent tilt axis behavior.

Depends on

  • Issue reported on a first-generation Archer gimbal approximately 4 years old at the time of reporting.
  • The problem may not be typical for Archer gimbals and could indicate a defect requiring manufacturer service.
  • No resolution was documented in the thread regarding repair methods or whether manufacturer support resolved the issue.
