Using camera sliders with geared heads without risers

16 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • Optional square wheels on a slider can provide clearance when used with a geared head to avoid collision between the pan wheel and the track
  • Lisagav should not be used excessively on pan wheels due to its flammability, which also prevents its use in certain support systems
  • The Ronford-Baker slider can work with a geared head when longer posts are used on the mitchell mount to allow wheel clearance

Depends on

  • The square wheel solution addresses the clearance issue but may have other practical limitations not fully discussed
  • The offset version mentioned may only partially solve the problem at certain pan angles
  • The Ronford-Baker slider solution was presented as one operator's experience without broader testing data
