Steadicam centre post and arm post diameter specifications across different models

What the thread found

  • The 3/3a uses a 1.5 inch centre post with a 5/8 inch arm post diameter for the gimbal
  • Master series and Ultra sleds feature a 1.58 inch centre post with a 3/4 inch arm post diameter
  • GPI PRO followed the 3/3a standard with a 1.5 inch centre post and 5/8 inch arm post
  • XCS was the first manufacturer to switch to a 2 inch centre post while retaining the original 5/8 inch arm post size
  • M1 gimbal post measures 1.75 inches
  • Some 1.5 inch posts are specified at slightly smaller diameters due to manufacturer tolerances
  • Centre post size and arm post diameter that fits the gimbal are separate specifications that are often confused

Depends on

  • Some models lack documented specifications
  • Manufacturer tolerances can cause variation in actual measurements
  • The list remains incomplete for certain models like Archer and Clipper
  • Information on some newer models was not readily available at the time of discussion
