Intermittent horizon level failures on stabilized camera rig
21 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A horizon level indicator on a camera stabilizer can become completely non-functional in the field but return to normal operation later without any repairs being performed
- The malfunction may be caused by a loose connection in a 3-pin multiconnector either at the sensor end or at the electronics board end
- Checking and reseating all connectors on the left side of the electronics board may resolve intermittent leveling failures
- A hardware store bubble level can serve as a backup verification tool by mounting one permanently under the dovetail and attaching a second to the monitor with adhesive fasteners
Depends on
- The solution was never confirmed to fix the reported problem
- The exact cause was not definitively diagnosed
- Specific rig model details and electronic components are not fully described
- The issue occurred on an Ultra sled but may not apply to other stabilizer models
