Mounting a Hyperdeck Shuttle recorder to a Cinetronic 2 monitor while maintaining battery power and signal routing
13 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The Hyperdeck Shuttle can be mechanically mounted directly to the back of a Cinetronic 2 monitor by drilling holes into the back covers of both units and securing them with bolts through aligned corner positions.
- The Shuttle casing is thick enough to accept tapped M3 threads for reattaching battery mounts to the back of the recorder after modification.
- Power can be routed from a battery through the monitor with a direct feed and a separate 12-volt regulated supply to the Shuttle with an on-off switch, eliminating the need for the Shuttle's internal battery.
- SDI connections between the Shuttle and monitor should use DIN 1.0/2.3 male connectors on the Shuttle end with custom adapter cables to BNC connectors using flexible RG179 coaxial cable.
- Heat dissipation between the two stacked units has not been reported as a problem in testing under moderate temperature conditions.
- The Hyperdeck Shuttle lacks clip deletion and comprehensive SDI trigger recognition, limiting its usefulness for recording every take on set without manual file management.
- The Shuttle only recognizes Panasonic protocol SDI trigger and cannot trigger reliably from Alexa cameras unless they are set to roll timecode continuously, which is not standard on most productions.
- Firmware version 4.0 added Pro Res proxy codec option which reduces file sizes compared to standard codecs.
- Clip deletion capability is available only on the Hyperdeck Studio version, not the Shuttle model.
Depends on
- Testing has been limited to a few weeks in moderate Irish summer temperatures and has not included rigorous testing in hot environments.
- File deletion functionality has not been confirmed to work reliably on the Shuttle model despite availability on other Hyperdeck versions.
- The solution involves permanent modifications to both units including drilling, tapping, and internal soldering that cannot be easily reversed.
- SDI trigger compatibility remains incomplete, working with only Panasonic protocol cameras and requiring non-standard Alexa timecode settings.
