ARRI Trinity pendulum: function, weight configuration, and operation without it in low mode.

Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.

What the thread found

  • The pendulum creates drop time on the pan axis in all orientations except vertical, causing the rig to naturally level horizontally when transitioning between low and high mode.
  • Without pendulum weight or with the pendulum removed, off-axis pans (such as looking around a corner) become easy to hold, but vertical boom movements are harder to execute smoothly.
  • One operator reported using two 50-gram weights as a practical compromise, achieving light boom tendency while maintaining holdable oblique pan angles.
  • The older Trinity pendulum swings in one axis only, making omega or transverse operation difficult; disabling or removing the pendulum improves handling in those orientations.
  • A full 360-degree freely-swinging pendulum was expected in Trinity 2 design but has not materialized in current production.
  • Some operators substitute a Kenyon Gyro for the pendulum mechanism.
  • Comprehensive Trinity tutorial videos are available to help newcomers understand pendulum tuning without in-person workshop instruction.

Depends on

  • Pendulum behavior and weight tuning depend on operating mode (standard, omega, transverse) and desired pan angle.
  • Optimal weight differs based on camera package and user technique.
