Installing a Transvideo Rainbow HD7 SBL monitor on an Archer 1 camera rig

What the thread found

  • The Archer 1 has wiring infrastructure in place for HD video with a 7-pin lemo connector labeled HD VID on stage and three BNC connectors on the monitor bracket, making it possible to adapt a Rainbow HD7 SBL without major rewiring.
  • One approach to monitor installation involves replacing the 7-pin lemo and 4-pin hirose connectors with BNC connectors at the top of the rig and converting the bottom 8-pin lemo to accept a custom cable that connects to the new monitor.
  • The Rainbow HD7 SBL display has a resolution of 1024x576 pixels and brightness of 900 nits, compared to competitor models offering 1920x1080 resolution and 1500 nits.
  • The Rainbow monitor's center of gravity is not perfectly centered left-to-right, approximately 4 inches from one side and 3.25 inches from the other when measured with the slide assembly installed.
  • The Transvideo slide assembly and side brackets can help adjust monitor positioning and weight distribution on the Archer yoke.
  • A lighter HD monitor can create weight distribution changes compared to the original Archer monitor, and custom counterweights may be needed for balance on larger rigs.
  • Transvideo offers a yoke mount and rosette adapter separately, and their customer service can provide guidance on specific mounting solutions for particular rigs.

Depends on

  • This discussion is specific to the Archer 1 configuration and may not apply to other camera rigs.
  • The actual mounting solution from Transvideo was not finalized in this thread; only preliminary testing and custom approaches were documented.
  • Weight balancing concerns noted in the thread may be specific to individual operator setups and rig configurations.
  • The comparison between Rainbow HD7 SBL and TVLogic monitor was mentioned but not conclusively evaluated.
