Connecting Canon 5D video output to Steadicam Scout monitor

15 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • The 5D's LCD screen will blank when an A/V cable is connected to its output port, which is normal behavior.
  • Video output from the 5D through composite connections should work when properly configured with the Scout's monitor.
  • Generic mini-to-RCA cables may route the video signal through unexpected connectors, such as the red or white RCA jack instead of the yellow one.
  • Feeding an SD composite video signal into an HD-SDI input port on a monitor can cause display failure.
  • The Scout monitor's preview button must be activated to display incoming video.

Depends on

  • The original poster did not confirm whether they resolved the issue or tested with alternative equipment.
  • The advice about RCA connector color variations applies only to generic third-party cables, not manufacturer cables.
  • The HD-SDI port mismatch applies only when using monitors with both SD and HD inputs.
