Mounting a lens motor on the operator side of a Sony HDW 750P camera
21 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A motorized focus system can be mounted to the operator side of a Sony camera using a Chrosziel rod adapter plate that replaces the tripod plate and accepts 15mm rods.
- The Jerry Hills 2-in-1 lollipop motor mount can attach to the rosette of an Arri plate, though this may not work for cameras with servo units on the rosette side.
- Standard Arri bridgeplates with 19mm bars can support motorized focus systems when used with appropriate shoulder support like the Anita pad.
- A Baer-bel camera plate can be mounted to the bottom of a camera and accept 15mm iris rods for motor mounting, though operator comfort depends on using a shoulder pad.
- Chrosziel rod adapters for Sony cameras can typically be rented for approximately 25 dollars per day in New York or purchased for around 450 dollars, and work across multiple Sony HD camera models including the DSR-300 through F900.
Depends on
- The Baer-bel solution adds weight and comfort considerations for handheld operation.
- Panasonic and JVC camera models require different adapter models than Sony cameras.
- The Arri bracket with 15mm rods mentioned was experienced as too flexible when grabbed, potentially moving lens focus or zoom gears.
