Master Series 12V Hirose connectors losing power on sled while video also fails
16 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A power supply board beneath other boards generates the 12V delivered to Hirose connectors through one DC-DC converter, while a separate converter produces the 5V and -5V that power video and horizon boards.
- Failure of capacitors on the power supply board can cause loss of 12V power to the Hirose connectors.
- Internal breakage or shearing of Hirose cables due to repeated bending stress can short power and video together, potentially causing fuses to blow in batteries and eliminating both power and video.
- When a DC-DC converter receives full battery voltage at its input but produces no output, the converter itself has likely failed.
- Insulation wear on cables at specific points should be addressed during rewiring to prevent future failures.
Depends on
- Advice specific to Master Series 12V sled from 2010.
- The Acon D15S1212 DC-DC converter mentioned may not be readily stocked by standard electronics distributors.
- Whether this failure pattern applies to other sled models or years is unclear.
- No definitive resolution provided for the specific DC-DC converter replacement options in the discussion.
